Hello Anastasia! I really like the concept behind your mermaid! That said, the main area to focus on is the anatomical structure. Regardless of whether you choose a highly rendered style or a simpler rendering approach like this one, having a solid foundation is what will make the illustration feel convincing. The proportions of the torso and arms are a bit off. The torso feels somewhat flat because it doesn't quite capture the structure of a feminine torso. The character's left arm is also a little too long, and the hand feels oversized. On top of that, the pose of the arm and hand looks a bit uncomfortable and forced; a more natural arm rotation would work much better. I really like the interaction between the fish and the character, but I think it could feel even more intimate if the mermaid tilted her head a little more. That way, it would look as if the fish were rubbing against her face, almost like a cat seeking affection. Once the anatomy is corrected, you'll also find it much easier to adjust the armor. Since armor wraps around the body, it needs a solid underlying structure to feel believable. If the base isn't working, the armor won't read correctly either.
