Hey there! I painted over the portrait a little bit. I like the color palette so far and the warm mood. :) I'm not sure what your goal is in terms of how refined you want the painting to be, but you can start defining the forms a bit more. For example, you could add more lighting to the hair to give it a stronger sense of volume, or refine the illuminated side of the face, such as the eye, which should be receiving more light. You can also add a bit of ambient occlusion in certain areas, some ambient light on the shadow side, etc. Again, it all depends on the level of finish you're aiming for, but refining the volumes will definitely help the painting start to look even better. :) Hope this helps!

As you can see, this is still a very unfinished piece. Although far from done, I've struggled to figure out where to go from here and have considered just abandoning it. I feel like there are many things that are off, but I can't put my finger on what they could be. Any help is appreciated!

idk if you need to ditch it, maybe block the coat and head as two clear big shapes first, then check the shoulder to wrist line so the pose sits clearer before polishing details
