Hey! You can measure the width of the shoulders using the character’s head as a reference. Remember that the shoulders are approximately three heads wide, or about half a head extending on each side. If you draw the shoulders wider than three heads, or with less than half a head of width on each side, there’s a good chance the shoulders will look disproportionate. You can also add a slight curve along the outer edge of the shoulder to prevent it from looking too square. However, avoid making the entire shoulder completely rounded, otherwise it can look a little odd. This is actually a pretty common mistake. :) Hope this helps!

I’m trying to sketch an anime boy character and the shoulders always look too narrow or too square. I dont really understand how they change with the pose. My anatomy and proportions need work, any critique would help

idk if wider alone fixes the square look. maybe draw a soft clavicle line from the neck out to each tip, then hang the upper arm from a small ball under that tip so when one arm lifts the other side can dip
