The shading comes out dull because you stay within the same hue when coloring the drawing. Change hue when choosing color of the shadows and highlights. You can pick it based on light warmth and surrounding or you can just go crazy with colors. For the skin specifically (white that is) you need to use more red, especially on the parts that have better blood flow or thinner skin like nose, ears, elbows etc. Try to use dark red/brown for lines (nostrils, lips outline etc.) instead of black color. I would highly suggest looking up color theory and tutorials on how to paint skin (it is all about biology and physics). Overpaint: What I did is adding more dark reddish tone to the shadows (see B) and light orange to the highlights. I also added a bit of blueish tone to the side of her torso to imitate reflected light. For clothing and hair I decided to pick toxic green color to show how you can have fun with it. To pick fitting color I took base color of her top, drew with green tone on top with low opacity brush and used the resulting color (see A) to paint plane in the light. Did the same with the pants. I didn't correct anatomy much since the question was about rendering. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors - there are countless ways to paint, I am sure you can find your own. | Artwod Feedback
