This is a cool, detailed piece, your friend is very lucky. I think the problem is that everything in this painting is fighting for attention: everything has similar value and detail degree. Try to use greyscale mode to check values. The rule of the thumb is: whatever is the brightest, most saturated and detailed will be pulling attention of the viewer. Meaning you need to decide on 2-3 subjects/points that are important for the illustration and reduce saturation/lighting/detail degree for the rest. I blurred things that are less important. I darkened parts of the painting to make lights pop. As cool as those flying glowing monsters are I don't think they posses light capacity of a strong light bulb so they shouldn't illuminate everything around them at a moderate/great distance. For hair: while it is a cool concept the question is what is more important - for the viewer to see every single hair strand in the distance or the girl in the center. The further things are away from us the smaller and more compressed they appear - I applied it to the hair behind her. Hope it helps. Good luck! | Artwod Feedback
