I really struggled to find something wrong with this! You applied correct line weight, the stylization is nice. It's best to give yourself hyperspecific feedback, and also, to overhype yourself rather than put yourself down. The more you are your own worst critic, the more painful the art process is, the less likely you are to keep doing something that hurts. I just sort of assumed your intent here, since the character's eyes are obscured, that you wanted to make this ogre lumbering, imposing, and unsympathetic. Btw, Rendering in pen and ink by Arhur Guptill could be a good help! Even just copying some illustrations in it. Artwod mentioned this book in their recent video and it rocks. What I did: 1. Increased of the ogre's props to make them more memorable. Don't be afraid to go big! Most people only glance at artworks in passing, so make sure all this stuff is noticeable! You can do this in the planning stage. The sketch often looks better just because it's not very defined. 2. I made his head smaller and emphasized the assymetry of his eyes. That can help your character look more uncanny and unsympathetic, since the eyes and face are what we connect with as viewers. 3. I made his teeth bigger so they stick out of the silhouette and made his ears smaller, so they don't compete with the teeth. 4. Made his arms bigger, to make him more swole and menacing. 5. I made his goatee more prominent, to make it more clear that he has it. I didn't know what you were going for with the rectangle between his eyes, so I assumed tribal paint! Asking yourself questions about your character is a good way to improve the storytelling. Is it a wrinkle, tribal paint, a scar? 6. Ditto for the necklace. I made the elements of it bigger, and I would invite you to ask yourself the same questions: are they broken glass, someone's fangs, jewels? Again, since I wasn't sure what you didn't like about the piece, I decided to stop my modifications here. What do you think about them? Do you like them? How you feel about my paintover might tell you more about what you didn't like, even if you want to throw my paintover out! :DD And don't be so hard on yourself. Your line weight rocks already, and your stylization is nice as is, you can start pushing it more!
