Hey, Buket! Cool submission! Pirates are always fun to draw! This is something I'll stress forever, but a solid base is what makes a painting look great. Before worrying about lighting or the mood of an illustration, it's important to build a solid structure drawing. There are a few areas in the character's face that could be improved, such as the direction of the eyes, the structure of the nose, and the way the hair overlaps the side of the face. Small things like these affect the overall sense of volume and make the character feel a bit flat. I mainly focused on correcting the face while trying to preserve its structure and three-dimensional form. To help the illustration feel less empty, I'd also encourage you to think about the story taking place in the scene. Having that context in mind makes it much easier to design a background that supports the character. That's why I added a simple background; it isn't overly detailed, but it helps communicate the setting and gives the illustration a stronger sense of place. Hopefully, I'll have the chance to help with the lighting another time. Thanks for submiting your piece! | Artwod Feedback
