Hi there, for the side profile, you want to make sure that even in a highly stylized anime version, you want to be closer to certain proportional relations that we can observe in life. While the exaxt numbers do vary, depending on how far you want to go, a typical mistake is making the face too tall, with the eyes being way up and then there's not enough skull left on top. A good rule of thumb for this view would be to reserve roughly half of the height of the entire head for the face, so the eyes would sit around midway. Also leave enough room for the hair to flow over the cranium, as hair usually also gives some extra volume on top. To combat the flatness, observe how the face in profile is basically a staircase of in- and out flowing lines. Apart from the nose, your face is more or less one straight line down. It will look more believable, if there is a bulging out of the brow ridge, then a deeper sitting plane for the eyes, then the nose goes out again. Underneath the nose, the lips also go out and inwards, and under the bottom lip we typically have a little indentation and a final bulge outwards. You can play with the level of jagged outline as you wish depending on style preference, but forgoing it completely will result in your aforementioned flatness of the face. Another small thing that is easy to fix is, the jaw line should correspond more to the position of the mouth. The mouth sits exactly where the moveable lower jaw meets the upper jaw, and therefore the edge of the back of the jaw where it bends upwards to meet with the ear should be about the same height as the middle of the mouth. Once you internalize these proportions and relations, feel free to play around with them. Especially in stylization for anime you can easily extend the lower parts and jaw of the character for a more masculine look, or change the size and shape of the eyes. The larger and more rounded, the younger the character will look. o/ | Artwod Feedback
