Hello! You're doing fine, and the baseline of everything we need to learn sadly is struggle XD I hope my writing is clear, but generally speaking the main issue i see here lays in the value range, if you go too dark or too bright right at the start you lose the range needed to properly render something. I advise you often switch with ctrl + y to dot grain 20% if you work in color right away, so you can have a clearer vision (values are always more important than colors). As far as the environment goes, you can imagine a standard indoors or outdoors scenario, without necessairly making it explicit, but keeping it in mind for the general light scenario.
