Hiya! Sorry for the delay!! My best tp for consistency is drawing one face of the character as neutral as possible, so you have a benchmark to compare everything else to! In this case, the first one is most frontal/neutral and you said that's closest to what you want the character to be, so drag it over to the ones you are unsure about and ask yourself "what is different?". With the example below there, I think the level of detail is a little bit too high compared to expression 1. This makes him a little bit older-looking, and I think especially since it is a more relaxed expression as 1, I would expect there to be even less folds in the skin as in 1. (I hope that makes sense, feel free to let me know if it isn't!) Because the face is pulling less expressively. I think 3 & 4 also have a little bit of an inconsistency in the jaw, 3, is quite round and smaller, 4 is more angular and wider.
