Like the design here. One of the trickiest subjects, in my opinion, to render is water. And to make that even more difficult the medium being pen and ink. I think the wash(markers in your case) helps to add some value over just the ink. You need to think of a puddle as more of a flat mirror. This mirror is flatter the calmer the weather. If it’s raining, that mirror surface just needs to have a bit of texture in it. The trick is to not over texture the puddle and to help, you texture everything around the puddle to enhance the smoothness of the water. The reflection you see in any water will be darker than the value it is reflecting. In this case it reflects the sky (cloudy grey) and needs to be a value darker than the sky. I showed how a little texture, ripples, etc. can give you movement and again, it’s easy to over do it, and can ruin the effect. Very difficult subject and you can take variations of this concept from whimsical to realistic. I hope this helps you to explore this more and give you things to practice. | Artwod Feedback
