You did super well on this chicken! The first thing I notice really holding it back is that black outline that surrounds it, it really knocks down that three-dimensionality making the image appear more flat than it actually is. Now, I tried working a little over the piece, this was extremely difficult since I didn't have access to the original reference. But What I wanted to illustrate, Is looking for those big shapes that help illustrate the form more, here I tried highlighting the cheek, beak and brow that I saw appear in shadow and light on other chickens. Find those big shapes, where does light and shadow separate, where is that 3D form? What gets hit by light what doesn't? Don't be afraid to go dark with your shadows.
