I’m trying to sketch an anime boy face and the mouth keeps making him look like a completely different character. I’m probably messing up the proportions and shape language. Using Procreate here, would appreciate a critique
First off, you did a really good job at capturing Luffy's essence! I think a major thing here is the mouth needs to be moved up and the face needs to made a but longer.
moving the mouth up helps, though idk if a longer face is the fix. the grin already reaches past the eye corners so it fights the small chin. maybe pull the smile in a bit and let the cheek curve carry it instead
maybe the mouth reads off because it sits pretty low and wide under the nose. luffy's grin is more a shallow curve tucked closer up, corners inside the eye line. also keeping the top lip line thin and letting the teeth stay one soft shape helps him stay himself
