Here is how I approach painting metal: I look for simplified forms, like cylinders for arms, fingers, helmet, or cut spheres for shoulder pads and paint a gerneral gradient with such form first, later on separate layer I add some detail lines and specific surface element. Think about it ilkie you would intend to sculpt with darker color in your light clay, with such approach you can achieve beliavable feeling and stucture of reflecting metalic material.
