The way we can direct the eye to our focal point has less to do with color and more to do with contrast. Hard lines draw our attention, soft ones don't, bright colors against dark, warm against cool, saturated against gray. Look at how in the paint over I dulled down all the colors except the face, see how it pops out? I even grayed down the background. I hope this helps you :)
