Hey! I haven’t really drawn much using brush pens myself. But in general, what I’d recommend is doing exercises that help you gain better control over the brush. Things like the studies on the left side: value studies, shadows, simple forms like boxes, or even organic shapes. Exercises like these will probably help you more in the beginning than jumping straight into character illustrations, not that drawing characters is wrong, but personally, I think it’s better to start with simpler exercises first. You could also check out Sorie Kim (soriekim on Instagram), who has incredible control and technique with this type of brush. Doing studies from her work could help you understand the tool better and later apply those ideas to your own work. I’d also recommend reading “Easy Art Pen & Ink Rendering Techniques” on the Artwod blog. I think it could be really useful as well. Hope this helps! | Artwod Feedback
