I agree that getting rid of the alligators in the background can help the composition, but you can also desaturate them and push the purple from the background on them to help pushing them in the background and separate them from the main character. A question. Are these gators like hallucinations? Floating ghosts? Or they need a body attached to their heads? That part was a bit confusing to me. You can try bringing more harmony to the piece by creating a glaze. A low opacity solid colour layer on top of everything to slightly balance the colours.
