Yo! This illustration is looking really strong so far! The main issue is that everything feels a bit flat right now, and that mostly comes down to lighting. First, I’d suggest making the background a bit lighter so there’s better value separation between the character and the background. At the moment, they share very similar values. You could also add some vertical cloud shapes to reinforce the feeling of falling. That would add a really nice dynamic element to the piece. On top of that, play more with the lighting. If Icarus is falling, imagine parts of his body gradually being consumed by shadow—as if he’s leaving behind the light that once protected him. That concept alone could add a lot more storytelling. It could be even stronger if the shadows were cooler instead of warm. This would create a compelling contrast between the warm light (protection) and the cool shadows (the fall).
