Hey! Honestly, I don’t have much more to add. Emilia already gave you really solid feedback, including some of the same points I would’ve mentioned. Just speaking broadly: Keep the direction of your light in mind. Without a clear light source, it becomes very easy to light everything evenly, which often makes the object feel flat. Also, make sure you’re thinking about the organic form of your subject. Even if your lighting direction is correct, it’s difficult to create believable volume if you don’t fully understand the underlying form. One thing that can help is drawing contour lines over each section to better visualize the organic structure. I’d also strongly recommend studying the fundamentals of light and shadow, things like: Light direction, cast shadows (how to project both things), Light "anatomy" (that's how I call it haha), such as terminator, core shadow, highlights, ambient occlusion, rim light, and so on. Understanding these concepts will give you a much stronger foundation for painting. Hope this helps! | Artwod Feedback
