The reason it might feel confusing is that, in the painting, the front of the barn is more exposed to ambient light (the sky), so its value is slightly lighter than the sides, even lighter than the roof (partly due to material differences). But if you were to simplify everything into just two values, it would look like this: only the silhouette of the barn, the foreground hut, and the background mountains, even a bit of the grass just to add a little interest in that area.
