Hey there! I’ll focus more on the painting rather than the character’s anatomy, since there are a few anatomical issues. The main problem with the lighting is that there isn’t a clear light direction. I imagine you might have been aiming for a frontal light, but that tends to flatten the forms and reduce the sense of volume. Ideally, using a three-quarter lighting setup helps give more volume to the forms. You can also support it with secondary lights, like the rim light I painted on the right side, which helps highlight the silhouette, as well as the secondary light coming from above. Another thing to keep in mind is that not every part of the character needs to be illuminated. As the artist, you decide where to guide the viewer’s eye. Because of that, I thought it would work well to keep the lower part of the character in shadow so the focus stays on the upper area, such as the face, hands, and the magic effect.
