I really like this character style. I am not a pro but for color I would use some complementary color for shadow and highlight (here orange and your background purple). I would strengthen the colors of your magic hand and make it a clear light source. I would then playa bit with the shapes of shadows and light. I hope you this helps.

I really struggle with colouring and values. Not too happy with the clothing either as i couldn't quite figure out how to shade it. Any help with this would be very appreciated! She's a detective/sorcerer.

skin tone

I can't seem to get the skin tone right. I'd like to play around more with the shadows and highlights by mixing in a little more color—not just black and white—but I have no idea how to do that.
