Love your style! I tried to stick to it as much as possible. I think what might have made it "lack life" is a little assymmetry! Perfect symmetry in hair and portraits is very rare, making it look more artificial, but I think changing just a few things to break the mirroring helps a lot!
Good drawing seems very solid, maybe a little more shading but all in all good.

Late post, fell asleep after got back from vacation. I drew these three from references to sharpen my visual library. Probably as much as i needed before hopping into drawing from imagination. To me, there's a lot room for improvements, because these drawing still not great. If you have any advices, truly i'd be grateful to hear it. Ignore the top left, its from yesterday :)
