Hey there! Nice work here! Personally, I would choose a different lighting setup. I think the scene could work really well with a light source coming from above, allowing the merman to read mostly as a silhouette. In my opinion, this would reinforce the scene's storytelling and drama much more effectively, since it preserves a darker value range and creates a greater sense of tension.
