This is a lovely painting and i think you're already doing a great job, what i mainly notice myself and i find is pretty important is working with darker values and emphasizing shadows more! this will make the image feel like it has even more depth and be easier to read/view for the viewer as well. i roughly added some shadows sporadically just to show how much it can really add to the image, i especially focused on shadows on the building adding a stronger composition and helping the viewer focus on the scenery and what's Infront rather than the building competing with the rest of the image, especially the roof! it acts as a vignette feeling that helps making the viewer focus more centrally on the image, and makes it more enjoyable to look around.
Oh wow! Thank you. First, I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply to you. It didn't seem like anyone was going to do a paint over and I was really looking forward to getting some feedback from other artists. I stopped checking and so never saw what you did. I'm thrilled that you decided to give me feedback. So although Its been 5 months, THANK YOU for choosing to give me feed back. Its so much better than just getting "likes" on my work. Id like to respond to your feedback now. I think it works well. I wanted the image to be "Lofty & Mysterious". I think shadows around the building making a vignette helps, as you said, "making the viewer focus more centrally on the image". Something else, I intended with this picture to have the middle ground be the Focal point. I wanted the far distance to disappear into fog and the foreground to "have stuff" that didn't detract from the Middle ground. I made that building to "frame" the environment. Now that I've seen the darkened building in the foreground I can see how much it competed for attention with the middle ground. The darkening was just what it needed. The middle ground sparkles now. I think the other shadows helped to break things up and add some movement for the eye. Like darkening the Tree in areas, rocks, lines in the dirt. To me those shadows adds a bit more depth and a heck of a lot more movement for the viewer. I put a lot in to this picture in the sense I wanted to challenge my self and I picked specific things to work on, so thank you. Its hard for me to express just how much this meant to me, its a lot. I'm already considering uploading some more of my work and have patience that someone will reply eventually. Cheers @kanna
I'm happy you found it useful! Glad to see you giving the feedbacktool another shot <3
