i love ur character! shes so expressive with her big ole eyes<3 firstly what id reccommend is getting lots of reference images of the things you wanna draw and lighting ideas (so for this piece pictures of large cogs and doorway lighting), then id reccommend looking into values and hard vs soft shadows (aka when an edge is hard like the side of a cog there isnt as much blending but if a shape is smoother like the skin there are more softer and blended shadows) this will significantly help you when lighting a scene. Finally I would try to move away from relying on the soft brush as much as it is holding you back from proper forms and any harsh lighting.
