Hey there! I think you have a solid base already. I'd recommend you use references for the lighting, so you can know how the local colours look in the light and dark. I picked the light coming from the left, so the bottom of the leaves will be darker (keep in mind the organic form of the leaf) while the front part of the snail will be bright (keep in mind the organic form of it, you can achieve a better form indication). The cast shadow of the snail will be projected backwards instead of the viewer's direction, as you suggested. I added a rough background (in high values) to add more depth to the scene.
