To avoid muddy shading, you cloud try picking a color that’s darker but more saturated than the midtone for the shadows, and one that’s lighter than the midtone but closer to the color of the light source for the light. Or you could pick a color that’s not black for the shadow and go with that one. As far as I understand rendering, every turn in the body and clothes - either sharp or soft - means a change in how that plane is touched by the light or how it’s in shadow, so rendering is basically a visual representation of that, so don’t be shy carving out forms with light-tones and shadow tones. | Artwod Feedback
