If you don't want to use darker shadows, then work more in the mid-tones and light areas. First, I adjusted the levels to increase the light values. I added soft lighting on the right side to reinforce the high rim light, then I adjusted the mid-tones on the planes that are more exposed to the ambient light of the bg.
