Nice work on your shadows, you've created a pretty solid base to get started with here. I highly recommend incorporating a lighter value to your characters chest, neck, and the lower half of the face, this will help bring these section forward and add in much needed depth, separation, and interest to your over all design. I wasn't quite sure if your character is reptilian or aquatic seeing how smooth you've rendered him. But I've implied your character as having scales to help push describing his 3d features further. Using this I could capture more highlights reflecting off of the scale plating and darkening where they interlock. With that said I hope my feedback helps share some light on answer your highlights and form questions.
