Hey! Well done so far! It’s important to have a clear separation of values to create better depth between planes. You can even create a sense of depth without needing to overpaint details or add fog everywhere. In your illustration, the dark values in the background were very similar to some of the dark values in the midground and foreground, which made everything feel a bit flat. Now notice how I kept lighter values in the background (and more desaturated colours), while the interior of the building uses darker values. In terms of painting, I used cooler bluish tones for the lights and kept more purplish tones for the shadows. This helps avoid using a single colour range everywhere. Once your graphic shapes are clearly established, it becomes much easier to continue painting by adding midtones, bounced light, ambient occlusion, and so on. I also adjusted the composition slightly; the character was too large, and I darkened the shadows. Hope this helps! | Artwod Feedback
