Hey there! Nice illustration! You could direct the focal point more toward the character by keeping most of the lighting concentrated in that area. It’s common to want to illuminate the entire scene; it would be logical to show the light illuminating the whole room, but as the artist, you decide where you want to guide the viewer’s eye. What I did was darken the edges of the canvas. These areas aren’t particularly important, so keeping them in shadow helps reduce their visual importance. This allows you to emphasize the lighting on the character by brightening the hair, face, and part of the torso, while keeping the lower part of the body in shadow to maintain the viewer’s attention on the upper area. Also, notice that I slightly darkened the ceiling reflected in the mirror to help the character’s silhouette stand out more clearly. :) I didn’t do it in the paintover, but you could also add a bit of dirt or some subtle glare to the mirror to give it more of a glass-like texture and prevent it from looking completely new and clean.
