Artwod Going Forward - A Word from the Team

News

It's time to talk a bit about our relationship.

Dear community,
We've realised, that in the past we were not transparent enough, and we really want to change that.
This is why we want to tell you a bit about what we've learned and our plans for the future.

What we learned from 2025

In our pursuit of becoming the best learning platform for artists we've changed many things, some for the better, some not...
And with the strong growth of our community we were blindsided by the idea that users wanted to draw 'fun' things. We made the mistake of introducing too many 'fun' roads, sacrificing the educational part. We realise now that ''learning is the fun''. This means we will create a core learning experience that will feel highly educational. Any added features (such as our practice section, gamification or future community features) will only exist to supplement that sense of skill progression.

🎯 Our focus for 2026

With the removal of our courses and classrooms we want to clarify some important things:

Our intention is to make learning a rewarding habit.

Knowledge, to a large extent, has little value if it’s not met with consistent practice. This has always been our philosophy and the main reason we felt that Artwod should be different from the plethora of online course platforms out there.

We have zero intention of being course platform number X on the list. We strive the be the absolute best art learning tool ever. Period.
And we are moving closer to that goal every single day!

User Experience

We want you to experience a sense of skill progression that feels engaging, motivating and rewarding and served through a seamless digital learning experience.

What we'll be working on:

We want all users to immediately understand the benefit of Artwod. That learning art can be achievable and engaging, immediately delivering on the promise of skill progression without sacrificing engagement or time. We are therefore continuing to improve our focus points from 2025:

  • Better Onboarding: We stay super focused on making sure the onboarding experience for new users is as flawless and educational as it can be. This is not at the expense of our loyal users, but rather for their benefit. So we have good feedback on what makes the most enjoyable learning experience. This can then be translated to all learning content in the app.
  • Improved Drawing Experience: Based on our user feedback we are fixed on improving the drawing app to match industry standards. Introducing better brush engines, pressure curves and device compatibility.
We are also actively listening to suggestions for the drawing UI and tools. We continue to work on allowing users to set a pressure sensitivity preference that is optimised for their stylus.
  • Progress Tracking: With an increased focus on skill progression we are experimenting with new UI/UX flows to provide users with a better sense of progress tracking and learning autonomy.

Content

The new content that Artwod will prioritise will be aimed at increased skill progression.

Premium content will not be made for the sake of content, but for the sake of mastery.

What we're working on:

  • Intermediate Road: Given the popularity of the Intro to Drawing road we are developing a follow-up road that will tackle more of the same concepts but in greater detail or with increased difficulty. This will provide our users with an improved drawing skill set that will benefit their learning.
  • Mastery Roads: We are developing new type of roads that will be an extension of our core learning offering; Mastery roads will allow users to practice the concepts learned through the Artwod beginner and intermediate road on more specific subjects such as Anatomy, Drapery, Animals, etc.
  • Video on all roads: All roads will have some form of video instruction or follow up so that the content is easier to understand and easier to consume without sacrificing educational value.

As already mentioned we will be replacing the most popular courses with learning roads and we will be removing the least popular courses, such as mech design, creature design, prop design, etc, as they have barely been used by anyone.
That said, we will only remove all courses once we have a migration plan in place for our Pro members and we have therefore decided to, once again, push back the date on course removal.

Pro Membership Impact

The reality of a growing platform means that personal services are simply impossible to deliver to a large user base.
Our pro plan was, in its essence, a mini-mentorship for power-users that wanted to benefit from personal feedback.

This is a service that we can no longer facilitate on a large scale...

To compensate for this we are working on a contingency plan to migrate Pro members to the Premium membership as soon as we remove all legacy content from the platform early in 2026.
In doing so we will provide Pro members with a prolonged membership that far outweighs the remaining value left on their current subscription.

The Credit System (feedback)

While we poured a huge amount of effort into designing and improving the credit system, the reality is that only a small portion of users found it valuable. After much consideration, we’ve decided it’s time to let it go so we can focus our energy on what truly benefits the community.

We will be exploring migration options for all users who possess legacy credits and we are open to any suggestion from you guys!
Thank you

Thank you for being part of Artwod. Your support and passion are what keep this community growing, and we’re excited for the next chapter together.
