Nice character design here. I think a little perspective practice will help you with the hair and how it follows the head sphere. As far as the rendering goes, you have the right idea but your values aren’t wide enough. I would add one more darker value for hair and clothing as well as one more light value for each. This will increase the contrast and depth/volume. Hope this helps give you ideas to practice.
