I think you did a great job here and the only thing missing is the outline to give it form. Like the reference you used, it has an inked outline. You can see how this outline just enhances what you already have. One other possible thing to practice would be using shapes for shadows and highlights. Called cel shading. It’s what the reference is using. You can see it in the hair as actually shapes that are filled. Hope this helps.
