Hello there! When painting lighting, the first thing you need to establish is the direction of the light (which you've already done). From there, think about which planes are directly facing the light source. Visualizing your forms as simple cylinders, spheres, and boxes can make this much easier to figure out. For the face, keep the planes of the head in mind so you can place your shadows more accurately. There are also some great tools that can help with this, such as the Asaro Head, which simplifies the planes of the face and makes it much easier to understand how light wraps around the head.
