Personally, I would have enlarged the eye socket area to make the eyes appear bigger. After establishing the placement, the overall eye structure, and the eyeball, I add the eyelids. That's actually the stage where I tend to get a bit stuck. In any case, you can go to the "Introduction to Portrait" section of the roadmap. Everything is explained there in detail.
