This is the main teaching of the introduction to drawing roadmap from Artwod. The method teached boils down to those steps: 1. Deconstruct the reference into simple 3D forms. 2. Create your own puzzle pieces instead of copying another artist's method. 3. Make a graphic representation noting what's iconic and where elements sit. 4. Do studies from reference, focusing on proportions. 5. Repeat many studies to internalize the forms. 6. Draw from imagination in a new pose to force working from memory. If you haven't yet, watch the video from artwod on youtube called: Pro Artist Deconstructs Evee [For Beginners] and even better, start the beginner road on Artwod! Hope this helps :)
My reply for you will be below these notes. It's long sorry :) **** Notes: 1. [05:21] Draw 2D graphical shape. *Each sides if possible. 2. [05:41] Make puzzle pieces of each parts / shapes, by deconstruct everything using 3D shapes 3. [15:07] Study it by constructing every pieces, completely. [20:26] Plus it's not meant to be perfect. Try to understand shapes, that make up something i want to draw. [21:30] Do this with references, as much as i can before touching next step. 4. (Challenging) [21:17] Draw it without references, and without pose or looks that i've never seen before. It forces me to draw it from imagination. [22:06] Use permanent marker to think a lot before committing to draw a line. Good tips: - [21:43] If i can draw and breakdown simple forms, also keep improving it, I can do studies a lot faster. - [22:25] If permanent marker feels discouraging, pencil would be good for starter and i can gradually changed it to marker **** This is my notes, and it looks similar with yours. Thanks a lot for referencing the video. I learned a lot. I was taking rest from drawing to pursue another hobby of mine. I got burnout, and here i'm back to drawing. I already subscribed and finished beginner road, but that was couple of months ago. I just started again with that MIG sketch. It was stiff, but i remembered why i love drawing. I also looked up and skimmed this video (Drawing Alphonse Elric from IMAGINATION). The core fundamental approach are the same so i could just try this method right away. My approach would be: Draw every pieces of MIG from 2D POV. Then deconstruct everything with 3D. Study it by constructing the pieces (don't worry if it's not perfect), and do this step a lot. The final will be drawing it from imagination with another position, like when the aircraft flying upward, downward, etc. to force working from memory. I'm hoping Antonio would made video about deconstructs hard surface drawing. Like car, plane, ship, anything. Just one video would be enough. Once again, thanks for replying!
