Hello hello! Idea looks cool! I like the mood in the character and posing suits the vibe! It's crucial that we have layers separated when we are including background with our characters. Also it is good to have a copy of linework before blending it into the picture. With smoke, we tend to lose a lot of structure during rendering or things may turn flat. A good render requires the establishment of a light source, which in this instance comes from the top. Choose a neutral color for the shadows (usually warm for cool light and cold for warm light), align the character elements with the core shadow, and arrange the shadows on a multiple layer. Focus purely on rendering character and how each material should be approached. Leather and skin is less reflective, cloth is dull, that gives you space to make something shiny. For each material find a reference you want to imitate. To apply the environment on top (also in a separated layer), you can play with different layer effects, such as Overlay. Make sure you constantly check the value in black and white version because things can get messy due to smoke. Hope it helps
