the mags and pockets look pretty good! I think the lack of 3 dimensionality comes from the figure himself. Particularly with the lack of a side plane on the torso. Because his body is slightly turned, you'd see the vest wrap around his body. I shaded in the side plane to give you an idea of what it would look like. Unfortunately there's no real shortcut to learning to see and draw form. It just comes from practicing primitive shapes in persepective and slowly adding complexity/more planes. I do like that you're shading/hatching! But you want to make sure your hatching follows along the form. You should continue to do that as it is good practice to see if you understand the form enough to shade it. Pick a light source and shade/hatch in the direction of the form. Keep it up!
