HI I love your artstyle. I apologize in advance I took some liberties with rendering (went a bit wild), but I hope the concepts might help you across styles. In terms of shading, I recommend considering the considering the environment, and starting with cell shading. Basically giving both the light and shadow part color designations, then using a brush to block out the bright/dark parts. A bright sunny day is quite difficult to do as the light can be scattered and all over the place, but for starters I like to think of one light source and start with that. (I used a screen mode for the light, and gave it a yellow orangey color, the shadows are blue from the sky) In terms of rendering, it's a tough process to put into words. I like to merge all the layers and edit where ever I feel like need edits (wow so descriptive), and continue until everything looks finished. I love sketches, but I feel that a final colored rendered sketch should avoid having thick pitch black lines, as well as big patches of almost white. Value studies could be helpful in understanding more abt it. Lastly, I used a bunch of csp brushes I downloaded for particles, for a finishing effect. I didn't have enough time to completely render and think through the logic and everything, but I hope the general makes a sense. If I have made any mistakes, please lmk, it would be great help.
