First, decide where the main source of light is coming from, how large and powerful it is. I also like to add a secondary weaker source of light. (The soft moon light) Don’t be afraid to slap on shadows. What is more important than rendering is first knowing where the shadows go. Example, because the light here is a strong orange light, we should have very dark shadows underneath the cowboys’ chins. I assumed that the light horse is covering the other one so there is no light cast on the brown horse. Lemme know if you need more details. My discord is themushroomfairy
I also moved the blue eyes cowboy closer to the blonde one. When they are so far apart, it is harder to focus on the dynamic between them. I hope this is helpful. I also added a grain to make the image look more real.
Oh my god thank you so much! AHH Ive been struggling so much on placing shadows and where they go 🙏🏻 I do have a question, is there a certain color for shadows? I use a dull blue for my shadowing and a light yellow for lighting. Should I change the color?? :000
My pleasure. ❤️ I usually select the color based on the overall color of the painting. I used a very dull orange for your paint over. You can paint the shadow layer separately and play with different colors by changing the hue too. What I recommend is not to stick with one certain color for anything between paintings.
