Hi there! I have first just added in lights and darks before going into colour, because in a traditional drawing adding colour will be a lmittle bit difficult at this point as the graphite might make everything a bit muddy. When shading, it is important to have that light source and direction in mind first, and then apply it consistently. So when I started doing that, I knew which areas would receive light, and left those open/erased the pencil and which I would need to shade darker.
