Cool emotion and character design, I really enjoyed it, thanks! In the original, the background has more contrast than the character, which pulls attention away even from such an expressive emotion. So, I toned down the background contrast and added some shadows to the character. Just my two cents! Keep up the great work.

Great character there. I love the expression and the colors you’ve chosen. A few construction mistakes, particularly with the chin. Remember that when the mouth is open the chin moves further down. So I adjusted her jawline a bit. I also feel that we should see her right shoulder, so I added that as well. For the rendering I think you just went a little too subtle with the shadow colors. To give your drawing more depth you need a certain amount of contrast between the lights and the darks. I darkened the shadow color and also increased the saturation and moved the hue closer to the red. I also added a shadow under her nose and mouth. The same applies to her hair, though I think you need to focus a bit more on the form of the hair. I darkened the shadow color and shifted the position of some of the shadows. For the highlights I did the opposite, made the base color brighter, less saturated and moved the hue further away from the red. Other things to note, it wasn’t until I started writing this that I noticed the cigarette smoke. It took awhile to notice it was there because it’s too close to the color of her hair. I think it needs to be bolder and less subtle. That’s really the main point here with your rendering. Don’t hold yourself back. Be bold and try to push it. Think about what’s important in the drawing and try to make it pop.
