I would move the character so the monster is clearly in view and the story is more clear. The ‘dullness’ is just a lack of contrast which can be fixed with some stronger lighting! The lines from the smoke imply light so I used that as a light source and darkened the rest to provide some direct light. I also recommend rendering everything in the same way, instead of using line art and cel shading for the character and painterly rendering for the rest, it will keep the whole thing cohesive. In terms of focus, I think what you want and what other people will want from this drawing are different. You want to do a full body render of your character, with a cool unfocused background, but others will want to see the awesome monster dying in the background, and your character is a vessel for how that story is portrayed. If you just want a cool render of your character, then it’s A-OK to blur the background and just have a cool backdrop for your character. But if you’re thinking about composition, it may be best to make your character really small to show how big the monster is, and change their pose to something more active, make it clear they are the one who killed the big monster, as well as putting in some footsteps to show their path away from it. Devil’s in the details! Those are just suggestions though. Great job on the drawing! It looks really cool, hopefully this was helpful :)
O my goodness thank you so much! This was more than helpful, definitely keeping these tips in mind! :)
