No paintover but I think the mesh texture you apply on top is killing otherwise a realoy cool drawing. Try to set layer with mesh on blending mode "screen" and reduce opacity to maybe 20-30%. I would also leave some parts completely without the texture (like mid tones and highlights on the slug or mid tones of the shell).

I feel like my work always looks muddy or hard to read. I draw with construction (as best I know) but I lose that by the end. I think my perspectives might also be boring or wonky.
