I like this piece and they look nice as is. The outline will enhance them a bit but you could just add dimension by adding a nice little shadow on one side of each fish. Choose a direction of light and add the shadow on the opposite side of the fish. Not sure what medium you are coloring with but just make sure to keep the shadow edge soft.
