Right now, both the character and the hole in the background share a very similar value, which flattens the image and reduces the sense of depth and separation. If the hole is the main light source, then the astronaut should be darker. That way, you get a clear “dark on light” contrast, which will immediately improve readability. You can apply this same idea to the surrounding characters as well.
