Hey! Good work so far. The main issue here is that you’re drawing the beetle as if it’s seen from a top-down, flat view; there’s little sense of perspective. First, you need to establish the ground. A simple rectangular plane can help you define the floor and give you a solid reference to place the beetle correctly. This will naturally guide your perspective. Also, think about form overlap. You’re right that the head could be slightly larger than the thorax since it’s closer to the camera, but for that to work, you need to clearly define the direction of the forms. Drawing contour lines will help a lot with this. For example, the horns: you drew their contour lines going downward, when they should be wrapping forward in space to show their orientation. The legs are also key here. Try thinking of them as cylinders—this will help you control their direction and make them feel more three-dimensional. Hope this helps!
