Encounter with a Fae
Theme of the artwork is 'Your Unique Point of Difference'
Illustration concept is loosely inspired by Arthurian legend, more specifically Lady of the Lake story. Fox spirit essentially grants, here in the form of a fallen star, the wish 'to learn' that artist has been pursuing. Composition is assembled from things, usually associated with change, guidance, knowledge and fulfillment of dreams.
Objective of the work is to capture the flickering magic that knowledge is and evoke the sense of wonder within the moment of sharing wisdom.
Artwork was made utilizing the grayscale technique, starting with 3 thumbnail draft ideas, developing a composition sketch and layering value direction, then exploring palette variants, adding complexity to color relationships, refining character details, rendering process and augmenting the scene with effects, finishing with cleaning up the illustration and a bit of post-processing.
The criteria I was aiming for are Originality, Execution Quality, Marketability and Audience Appeal.
Skills & goals I'm working towards are Splash Art, Character & Scene Design, Art Direction, Visual Development and Concept Art. Style is Semirealistic with mix of Fairytail & Anime. Trying to keep the feel of traditional medium: main watercolor pencils + secondary touch of graphite pencils with water-based & chalk pens
